Brand History

Although Dwayne Johnson is credited for being the brain behind Teremana tequila, the story’s beginning did not start with him. It started with Jenna Fagnan and Ken Austin, two partners who decided to work for Tequila Avion in 2010. They sold their business in 2019, but Austin received a call for possible collaboration with The Rock within the period.

Dwayne wanted to produce tequila consistently as a way to honor his heritage. Thus, he held meetings with Austin and Fagnan before concluding. He was able to achieve this dream by settling for Teremana Tequila.

After concluding what to produce, they needed to work with a family in the highlands of Jalisco, and they got one. The Lopez family, which had started a distillery to help the community, became helpful. The trio expanded the family business while helping the host community.

In March 2020, as COVID-19 was speedily raising its head, they launched Teremana Tequila. Due to the high demand for the products, the bottles disappeared from the shelves as quickly as they arrived. Many requests on their anejo or aged version were coming in from all angles. To honor these requests, Teremana Anejo was born.

The brand name combines the Latin word for ‘earth’ (Terre, representing Tera) and the Polynesian word for ‘spirit’ (Mana). Thus, it is loosely translated as the Spirit of the Earth. The goal is to create a spirit with the best quality and taste.

Teremana Anejo Tequila Review

Here, we will talk about what is inside and outside the bottle. What does Teremana Anejo taste like? How does it look? Is it worth purchasing? With a glassful on a side stool beside you, let us find out what you are about to take when you consume this drink!

Process: Teremana Anejo Tequila is made with 100% blue agave plants, which are harvested and trimmed by hand and left with only the hardcore. The cores (pina) are placed into a brick oven for three days to roast and ferment into sugar. They are then shredded to extricate the sugary liquid.

Once it happens, the liquid is fermented in open tanks where yeast acts on it, providing unique flavors. The sugar also converts into alcohol in the process. The next stage is for the alcoholic liquid to be distilled in a handmade copper pot until it reaches its distillation peak. After that, the spirit can age in American bourbon barrels for between one and three years to become anejo. Teremana Anejo Tequila does not have an additive, except water, which was added to proof it down.

Appearance: The shape of the bottle of Teremana Anejo is not unique. It is just the same as the bottles shelved in liquor shops. The only variation is that Teremana is imprinted into the bottle. Nothing is wrong with the shape since it does not affect the content and fits into any bar. Plus, the neck is long enough to make the pouring easy.

Regarding the label, it is black with gold lettering. There is nothing unique about it; brands have used the same style for their products. However, it does not stop the easy sales of the liquor.

Neat: Teremana Anejo looks like a more saturated version of its Reposado version due to the faint golden color it displays. However, the color is lighter than other anejo tequilas in different categories. The texture is more rounded than other versions, with a dominating brown sugar flavor.

Nose: The first thing to notice about Teremana Anejo is the sweet whiff that hits the nose. Notes of vanilla and caramel are more pronounced, with roasted agave and citrus lingering in the background.

Taste: The taste you may get is less prominent than you wish. It is light and sweet, with agave and vanilla sitting at the forefront and black pepper and citrus finishing it.

Finish: The taste does not last so long; it can be described as short to medium. However, it is smooth and has some faint black pepper notes.

Taste summary: This tequila is a must-taste if you want a good drink. However, understand that the blue agave taste is on the nose and palate, with sweet caramel and vanilla sitting pretty at the center. So, when you take it, your senses know you are taking a tequila drink. Even the manufacturers attested that they took time to create the drink, going by a popular demand for something unique. If you are a sucker for tequila, you will enjoy Teremana Anejo to the last drop.

Price: We have registered that Teremana Anejo is a good option for those who like lighter whiskey. But is it the cheapest and how much does it cost? The average price for 750 ml is $40. It is not a low price but a fair bet for a one – three-year-old tequila.

Value: Now that you have known the price of Teremana Anejo, the next question begging for an answer is, is it worth buying? The simple answer is yes. If you like sipping tequila, this brand is something to taste. It sits pretty well in many liquor stores and the price is not out of this world.

Although Teremana Anejo could be sweet and light for regular tequila drinkers, it is ideal for first-timers. Picking up one at the shop won’t be a bad idea if you have the money.

Alcohol proof: 40% ABV and 80 proof. Forty percent alcohol by volume (ABV) means the liquor contains 40% alcohol. The ABV is determined after measuring the quantity of sugar in the drink. The proof is usually twice the percentage of alcohol in the USA, so we arrived at 80. However, the British proof for a 40% ABV is 90.

Should you drink Teremana Anejo?

Tequila is healthier than other liquors because it contains few calories, sugar, and carbs. But that does not mean one should consume beyond the limit. Drinking excessive alcohol is still what it is – risky to the individual healthily, socially, etc. While drinking responsibly, note the following reasons to add Teremana Anejo Tequila to your cart:

Weight loss: It may sound crazy because we know the rule is if you want to lose weight, don’t drink alcohol. However, when you take a controlled amount of Teremana Anejo tequila, you can benefit from its weight loss properties of agavins. Agavins are sugar (nectar) in blue agave, which has a less refined molecular structure that stimulates metabolism and dissolves fats.

Digestion: After a hearty meal, taking a shot of Teremana Anejo feels like a journey to paradise. It goes down easily and aids digestion. Therefore, you can take it after meal if you want the food to go down faster.

Lowering dementia: A BBC report reveals a tie between people who take a lower amount of alcohol (tequila) to having cases of dementia in later years. Remember, they took a lower amount.

Curbs insomnia: Teremana Anejo possesses laxatives that help to calm the nerves. They may also induce sleep in individuals, although you should not depend on them.

Hangover: You will hardly be knocked out when you take a drink with 100% agave, like Teremana Anejo. But be sure you take the original product because cheaper ones may have some additives that could act otherwise.

How Teremana Anejo Tequila is Best Served

Typically, one can easily sip Anejo tequila neat or on the rocks, and this brand is not out of the question. If you need tequila to blend with ice cubes or club soda, Teremana Anejo is your go-to. You can also drink it old-fashioned. Let’s see how it goes:

On Ice: A little ice in the glass brings back a balance. The ice tones down the barrel aging aspect of the profile. Hence, we can say the core components appear more in the ice presence. You will get to discover more of the agave, vanilla, black pepper, citrus, and caramel. The beautiful part is that they all blend perfectly. The taste is also good, more like a reposado taken neat.

Cocktail (Margarita): Cocktails have other versions than the typical margarita everyone is used to. When mixed with different flavors, Teremana Anejo releases a much more delicious profile balance to form a cocktail. Mix it with bitter lime juice and Cointreau to enjoy the balance between the other flavors and the components of the anejo. Undoubtedly, you will get a hint of the agave while the black pepper remains at the finish. The caramel sits right at the center stage here.

Cocktail (Old-fashioned): All you need is two oz of Teremana Anejo Tequila, bitters (angostura or orange), and sugar cubes. Crush half a sugar cube into a mixing glass and add 2-4 dashes of bitters. Then, pour in 2 oz. of Teremana Anejo and stir. You have your cocktail on the table. To drink, transfer it to a glass with rocks.

Perfect Pairing

Teremana Anejo is perfect with most food due to its nature. It can be enjoyed during the main course or with desserts to spend a good night. Here are the perfect pairings for your favorite drink:

Steak fajitas: The more affluent the flavor, the better the food can pair with Teremana Anejo. As a main course, make your mealtime memorable by pairing the drink with steak fajitas or other meaty foods.

Dark chocolate: Any dessert with dark chocolate perfectly pairs with Teremana Anejo. You can even add some baked sweets incorporating chocolate, including banana bread.

Tequila has various labels under different manufacturers, with high-quality tastes. However, these drinks fall under three versions, Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo. Teremana Tequila also produces its drinks in these three orders:

Teremana Blanco: This silver, unaged tequila is clear and colorless, hitting all right notes at each sip. It is distilled in a handmade copper pot, using 100 percent blue agaves, and bottled at 80 proof. Besides, it has a lovely and smooth finish, giving vanilla, agave, and zesty notes that linger briefly.

Teremana Reposado: This version of tequila is aged between 2 and 12 months in American oak barrels. The oak barrels give Teremana Reposado Tequila a pale amber-gold color. The nose is a delight of agave and oak, with caramel and pale vanilla aroma in the background. In the same way, it gives a pleasing sweetness to the palate.
